The list of directories

This is the list of directories which you want to scan. You will want to check out How EboBar Scans Directories to find out what these directories here do. But in general, these are the folders which EboBar will peek into. It will make a list of almost every single file within those folders (and, if you wish, in the sub-folders too) - these will be the files you can later access using EboBar.

The entries in the list are (from left to right, obviously):

Name - This is a "friendly name", i.e. a name that is supposed to tell you what this directory actually is. Might be something like "Start menu", "My MP3 collection", "My favorites", "My documents" or "My cool directory which contains shortcuts to all the files I need". You could also write "c:\musics" or "*($&@!" in here. EboBar doesn't care.

Recursive - "Yes" means that EboBar will descent into all sub-folders of this directory and retrieve everything that's in there as well. If "No", EboBar won't look at what's in all those folders inside the directory.

Definition - How EboBar scans this directory. Will it only record applications? Will it ignore file names that rhyme with "schmuck"? You can add your own definitions in the third tab.

Directory - This is the actual name of the directory that is being scanned. This might be "c:\pictures" or "c:\documents and settings\Administrator\My documents" or whatever.

Add

Click this button to add a new directory that is to be scanned. You will be asked some details about that directory, and if you handle that properly, you're ready to go. NOTE that you will not be able to access the contents of that directory with EboBar until you have re-scanned the database.

After adding an entry, you'll most probably want to set it up. By pushing the Add button, this set up dialog automatically pops up.

Delete

Deletes all directories you have currently selected in that list above. The files in those directories will not be available anymore. NOTE that the files actually ARE still accessible via EboBar until you have re-scanned the database.

Modify

Modifies the details of the directory you have selected in the list above. That might include the friendly name of the directory, its recursive status, or the actual path of the directory itself! Click here to see the modify dialog that pops up after clicking this button.
