Configuration: Directories (details)
|
Click on any item on this configuration dialog to find out what it means and what you can do with it. |
This is the path name, i.e. the full name of the directory. Something like "c:\my cool links", "c:\pictures\people", possibly even "\\network\shared\WorkFiles" if you use EboBar to access files on a network.
For those who don't feel like typing the name of the directory: Click on this button and choose the directory to scan with a folder browse dialog.
Check this option and EboBar will wade through all sub-directories of the folder that is to be checked. If this option is unchecked, EboBar will possibly add directories it encounters (depends on the scan definition), but absolutely nothing that is stored inside those folders.
If checked, EboBar will ignore hidden directories. You normally want to do that, hidden directories usually contain all those boring system files which you never need anyway.
This is the scan definition to be used for this directory. It determines which files in the directory are used and which ones are simply ignored. You can create your own scan definitions in the configuration menu, but there are three scan definitions that come with EboBar which usually provide everything you need. They are:
Files and folders - EboBar will add every file it finds plus all folders. This does not mean that EboBar will add everything inside the folders (*this* is done by checking "Recursive" in this dialog), it implies that you can access the folders itself with EboBar. If there's a folder named "My Web Stuff", you can access that folder itself by, say, typing "MWS". If you then choose this folder, an Explorer window will pop up, showing the contents.
Note that this setting does indeed filter out a few files - mostly those ending with DB, INI and INF which are usually just system files.
Files only - Basically the same thing as "Files and folders". This setting however does not add the folders themselves.
Applications only - Will ignore anything that does not look like an application. So only executables will be accepted; anything else, like text files, pictures, movies, sound files, will be simply ignored. This setting also tries to filter out uninstaller applications. Obviously, this scan definition probably only makes sense when scanning your Start Menu.
Friendly name of this directory. This is just a convenience for you to instantly recognize what the purpose of this directory actually is. Feel free to type stuff in here like "My cool music", "Applications", "All those fine pictures of Teela O'Malley".
Determines how important the files in this directory are. If you choose a higher priority, files in this directory are more likely to turn up pretty high on the list of matches when you use EboBar. It is advisable to assign a high priority to directories that contain files that you use often. Giving a lower priority might require you to type more letters before the file you want to open pops up.
Dismisses this dialog. DISCARDS your changes. If you were planning to add a new directory, this decision is undone.
Accepts your changes and returns. NOTE that your changes can still be undone by canceling the configuration menu.
