If enabled, the EboBar window will be transparent so you can see through it. Using the slider next to the checkbox, you can choose just how transparent the window will be. Moving the slider to the left will render it totally transparent (so you can't see it at all, not exactly helpful), the right side turns the window entirely opaque (i.e. not transparent at all).
NOTE that transparency is not available on inferior Windows versions, such as Windows 98 and Windows ME.
Default: Enabled.
Why would you want to enable it? Because it looks cool.
Why would you not want to enable it? Because it can be slow (especially on low-performance systems) and make the contents of the EboBar window less readable (especially if you choose the window to be too transparent).
Will display an icon next to every entry in the EboBar. This is the icon you would see when looking at that file using the Windows Explorer.
Default: Enabled
Why would you want to enable it? Because it helps a lot identifying the entries. You can instantly see whether it's a picture, a WWW link, an application or something else.
Why would you not want to enable it? Because it might slow down EboBar when using it. Besides, you'll be able to view more entries.
Automatically start EboBar with Windows
This will launch EboBar while Windows starts up. So right from the start of your session, EboBar is at your service and just waiting for you to hit that magic hotkey!
Default: Depends on what you choose while installing.
Why would you want to enable it: Obvious, isn't it? You don't have to worry about a thing. Enable this option and EboBar will be active all the time (unless you quit it. Don't. You'd be making a simple utility very sad.)
Why would you not want to enable it: Hm. Possibly because you don't want to have it running all the time. Or because you don't like programs to start automatically on boot-up. I don't know. There's not too many side-effects to this option. Really.
If enabled, EboBar will display the extensions of all files. You know, those usually three letter long thingies, like .BMP, .JPG, .WAV. This is especially useful when "Show files' icons" has been disabled.
NOTE: Shortcuts will have a ".LNK" extension if you enable this option. That's normal.
NOTE: Changes you make to this option will only take effect after you re-scan your database.
Default: Disabled.
Why would you want to enable it: Some people only feel at home when they can see the extensions of their files. It's also quite useful if you have disabled "Show files' icons" because it helps you to see what kind of file you're dealing with: Image, sound, application, whatever.
Why would you want to disable it: Then again, some people hate those extensions because they're "computer stuff" and ugly. It's a matter of taste.
This is the magic hotkey which will bring up EboBar, your trusty friend in good and bad times. To change it, simply click on the area where the hotkey is and press the desired key combination. You can use anything you fancy, like Shift, Alt and Ctrl in any combination plus any key. You may not use the Windows key however - Windows does not support this.
Re-try entry after n decisconds
Enter the number of deciseconds (1/10s) here after which your entry will be marked for retrial. You didn't understand a word of this, huh? Okay, once again: Enter a number here. This will be the number of 1/10 seconds which EboBar will wait after you have pressed a key before it marks everything you have typed in so far. If you type anything now with the text being marked, the entire text you had entered so far will be discarded. If you move the cursor (by hitting the right cursor key, for example), the marking will be removed and you append something to your entry.
The point of it? Well, imagine you've entered five letters in order to find that document you wanted to open. These five letters were a stupid choice however and got you everything except the one file you were looking for. You might now delete those letters by hitting the backspace key five times - awkward - or simply wait for the number of 1/10 seconds specified here after which the text is deleted automatically when you hit another key.
Still confused? Well, it does sound totally useless. But this feature is bliss. Try it out yourself. Start EboBar, enter something, wait for that number of seconds - your entry will now be marked. Now a) press a key or b) press the right-cursor key, then press a key.
If you still believe that this function is as useful as a scuba diving kit when going free-climbing on a 1000ft mountain, you can disable it by entering the number 0.
If not, you can adjust it here. If you're quick, enter low number. If you, yawn, are, somewhat, slow, you should, better, yawn, enter, a, high, number, here. Or maybe even disable it completely (with the number 0).
